Donald W. Rode Sr of New Palestine, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the age of 71. He was born on November 23, 1951, to parents Theodore and Patty (Brooks) Rode. Donald is survived by his sister Diana McGowan, his son Dakota Rode, and his daughters Amanda Rode and twin girls Sophie and Stephie Rode, he also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ferdinand "Spider" and Ruby (Elbracht) Rode, his father Theodore Rode, his brother John Rode, and his sons Donald Jr. and Theodore "Teddy" Rode.
Donald worked with his father and grandfather at the New Palestine Cemetery before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1972, where he worked as a Material Clerk and an Armourer. He received the National Defense Service Medal along with the Good Conduct Medal. He also held a badge for Marksmanship. He took many courses throughout his career in the army, one that led him to a long career in excavation.
He enjoyed operating large equipment, riding motorcycles, spending time with family camping, fishing, and shooting at the Old Mill Campgrounds in Friendship, IN. He spent time in Arizona later landing back in New Pal at "The Barn" which had been in the family since 1849. This is where his heart was. He will be greatly missed by many.
