Donald Kelle

October 22, 1950 — August 16, 2023

Greenfield, IN

Donald Kelle, 72, of Greenfield, IN, passed away on August 16, 2023.  He was born on October 22, 1950, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Marvin and Barbara (Styers) Kelle. Don graduated from John Marshall High School in 1969, where he loved playing football with his brothers, nicknamed by the coach as “Big D” (Don), “little d” (Dennis), “3D” (Joe) and later on “little Kelle” (Kevin).  He loved growing up with his sister Cheryl and brothers on Brentwood Avenue. Don was honored to serve his country in the United States Navy, where he traveled the world, learning to sky dive and snorkel. After the service, he attended college at IUPUI and Clark College. He worked with his family at Kelle Construction Inc., and also worked many different occupations in machine shops, restaurants, sales, and truck driving.

Don was an avid reader and loved to argue about current events (even when you were both on the same side). He loved the water, fishing, and driving while listening to talk radio.

Don was devoted to Kathy and their family. He was immensely proud of his grandkids, and was tickled to hold his new great-granddaughter just days before he passed.

Don knew the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, and his granddaughters have fond memories of him reading Bible stories to them when they were growing up. His family looks forward to God’s promise of being together forever in Heaven.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Barbara (Styers) Kelle.

Don is survived by his lifelong companion and ex-wife, Kathy Kelle; his step-children Julie and Douglas, grandchildren Ashley, Abby, Isaac, and Adam; and great- granddaughters, Finley and Delilah. He is also survived by his sister Cheryl (Mike) Rose, brothers Dennis (Cindy) Kelle, Wm. Joseph (Julie) Kelle, Kevin Kelle, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private celebration of Don’s life at a later date.
