Don peacefully passed away at home on November 30th, 2023. Don was born November 21st, 1938, to Donald N and Vergie (Hammans) Curtis in Indianapolis, IN. After graduation from Arsenal Technical High School, he joined the US Air Force. He served for 8 years as a Security Service spy monitoring the Chinese Communists. In 1961, he married his late wife, Sharon Bourne.

 

Don spent much of his career in medical sales. He attended Yale University, Purdue University, Indiana University and California Coast University earning a Bachelor's and MBA degrees.

 

In 1996, Don acquired S.E. Drey & Company, an Indianapolis distributor and served as owner and president of the company until retiring in 2013.

 

Former Mayor of Indianapolis, Gregory Ballard, declared February 16, 2012, as Donald Eugene Curtis Day.

 

Don was an active member of Church of the Nativity in Indianapolis and Grace Episcopal in Muncie.

 

In addition to his membership to The Indianapolis Literary Club, Don spent many years as a scout leader, active in Veterans' organizations and received the Badge of Honor from the Chinese government in Taiwan. Don was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

 

Don has many hobbies, but his favorite interest was in the Sherlock Holmes society. Don was the President of the Illustrious Clients of Indianapolis for 25 years. in 2000, Don was invested as a member of the New York-based Baker Street Irregulars.

 

Don was widowed in 1999, and married Teresa Whitton Thurston in 2004.

 

Survivors include his wife Teresa, Son Donald N. (Wenjuen) Curtis and son Paul E. Curtis both of Indianapolis, IN. Stepson Christopher Thurston of Yorktown, IN. Grandchildren: Whitney (John) Moore of Westfield, IN, Sarah Curtis of Sacramento, CA, and Nicholas Curtis of Seminole, FL. Don referred to Mason and Miles Thurston as his "bonus" Grandchildren.

 

The family would like to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice, especially Julie and Lynne for their compassion.

 

Funeral services will be held at Church of the Nativity, 7300 Lantern Road, Indianapolis, IN 46256. Visitation will be held on December 16, 2023, at 2:00pm and the funeral at 3:00pm. Inurnment in the VA Columbarium at Crown Hill will take place at a later date.
