Debra Lynn (Simison) Bailey was born on August 25, 1964, in Anderson, Indiana. She left this world on June 24, 2025, in Alexandria, Indiana, after a courageous 27 month battle with cancer.
Deb served her community with dedication for over 35 years at the Madison County Government Center. Her co-workers were not just colleagues to her; they were family. During the holiday season, Deb brought joy and warmth to the courthouse, sharing her delicious baked goods and ensuring that everyone felt the spirit of the season. Her generosity and kindness extended beyond the workplace, as she was a person who truly embodied the spirit of giving.
Family was at the heart of Deb's life. She created cherished memories through her love for her husband, children and grandchildren, especially through her special creation of Deb's Diner, where she would let her grandchildren choose from an imaginative menu. Her cooking was the stuff of legends, particularly her renowned chicken and noodles, apple cake, and peanut butter fudge. The kitchen was her haven, and she poured her heart into making meals that brought her family together. She always said her special ingredient was love.
Those who knew Deb recognized her as "simply the best"—an individual who never complained and consistently put others first. Her faithfulness and strength, both mentally and physically, served as an anchor for those around her. Deb was crafty and possessed a laid-back demeanor, yet she was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a heartfelt conversation. She was the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back if someone was in need, ensuring that everyone in her life felt cared for and valued.
She is survived by the love of her life, Jeff Bailey; children Beau Bailey (Bridget) and Charles Bailey (Heather); grandchildren Aaliyah Hazelbaker, Aria Hazelbaker, Tyler Bailey, Cayden Smith, and Fenix Bailey; mother Sally Simison; siblings Lori Amick, Jeff Simison, Kelly Cody (Jim), and Amy Simison (Adam); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; cousin Dan Hence; Uncle Dennis Simison (Lisa); and best friend Avert Honeycutt (Sharon).
She is preceded in death by her father Jerry Simison and both sets of grandparents Charles and Bonnie Simison and Walt and Millie Safin.
As we remember Deb, we hold in our hearts her dedication, generosity, and the unshakeable love she had for her family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, and the memories created around her table.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 16th, 2025, at The Church at Broadway Park, 302 N West St. Alexandria, IN 46001. Time to be announced.
