David Hoover

March 30, 1947 — June 22, 2025

David Allen Hoover born March 30, 1947, to Rosemary (White) & Harold Hoover. He was the youngest of 4 children. Colleen Clark (Gene), Jerry (Judy) Silence, and Jim (Sheila) Silence. He was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers and grandparents.

The family lived in Kokomo or nearby most of his life. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947. He met his good friend Alan Fell in 5th grade, and they have remained friends to this day. When Alan brought a wife, Evie, home from Texas she joined the friendship.

As a young man he was a member of the Church of the Brethren, they are peacemakers and don’t do military service. Dave did Community Service in Baltimore, Maryland as his service.

His daughter Myra was born March 8,1974. She is Married to Lewis Jones, and they have 2 sons, Alex and Liam. Myra is a veterinarian in Gettysburg, PA. Myra was the apple of her father's eye.

His sister and brothers gave him several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family. Fortunately, he had been able to have dinner recently with his sister and brother-in-law. One nephew lives in Florida, when he came home to visit his mother, Judy, would always call so all of us could go to dinner at MCL. Dave wasn’t really fond of the MCL but loved getting to have the family dinners so he could visit and get hugs from everyone.

Dave was a machine repairman at Delco Electronics in Kokomo for 30 years. After he retired, he moved to Indianapolis where he met Betty Lou Santmire. They were married January 21,2006.

Dave was very active in the Kokomo Civic Theater when he lived in Kokomo, he performed in many productions. He had a beautiful voice and sang in some of the musicals. He was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a mideval reenactment organization. As he put it the way the Middle Ages should have been.

For many years Dave was an alcoholic. Dave told the story that he was too drunk to drive and was walking along I465 close to Christmas. A vehicle hit him and broke his left arm badly enough it required surgery. He decided it was a sign from God to stop drinking. He never hid that he was a recovering alcoholic and encouraged people to quit drinking.

Dave was a faithful Church member. He was a member of the McCordsville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the many friends he made there and rarely missed Sunday service. The only time he missed was when he was in rehab. Unfortunately, over the last few years he had to be in rehab several times.

He enjoyed his membership in Oakland Masonic Lodge and the Greenfield York Rite. His memory no longer allowed him to be an officer, but he loved attending Lodge with his brothers, his brothers were always very good to make sure they included him in things and make sure he was safe. He also enjoyed attending Eastern Star with his wife.

He will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends.

Jesus said to Her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he is dead, yet shall he live, and whoever believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
