Daniel William Davis

d. June 19, 2023

Westport, Indiana

Daniel William Davis (Danny; aka Devo), 60, of Westport IN was called home on June 19, 2023. Born on March 21, 1963 to Joann Greger (Golden) and Samuel Devoe Davis in Indianapolis, IN, Danny was well-loved and cherished by all who knew him.

Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Joann Greger; stepfather, Gary Greger; brother-in-law, William Marshall; both sets of grandparents, and several more family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Dylan Cox (Shayna); father, Samuel Devoe Davis; sister, Carolyn Marshall-Robbins (Mike); nephews, Dustin Marshall (Mellisa) and Kevin Marshall; niece Lori Hinton (David), grandchildren Dylan Jr., David, Eliana, Joseph, and Samuel; as well as many more great nieces & nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

Danny attended North Central High School in Indianapolis, then went on to be successful in many careers and endeavors in his life afterwards. He spent a good portion of his years employed by Culligan Water as a delivery driver, and had maintained friendships to this day with colleagues he met while employed there. He had once opened up Riley’s Cafe (named after his great-niece) on the east side of Indianapolis to showcase his amazing chef talents, something his family and friends will still rave about to this day. He continued to hold several delivery driver jobs in his lifetime, and even found a love of working in recovery centers as a way to give back to the recovery community that he was apart of. Danny always had a passion for helping others, even when he couldn’t help himself.

Danny enjoyed many hobbies during his time on this earth, such as playing drums, cooking, riding motorcycles, going to live shows, traveling, and spending time with his adored family and friends. You could almost always find him sticking his toes in the sand, listening to music, eating something blueberry flavored, cooking up a delicious meal, or cracking a joke to make someone smile.

To know him was to love him, and he did not often meet a stranger that didn’t quickly become a friend. He was always the life of the party, and if you needed a laugh, you could count on Danny. Even when he couldn’t make himself smile, he was determined to make those around him happy and full of life.

Danny battled an addiction that took over his life, one that he tried time and time again to kick. However, we do not want him to be remembered for his illness, but for the pure strength and courage it took for him to wake up every day and face a battle that was hurting him. Danny is no longer in pain and is no longer suffering at the hands of addiction, as he is now wrapped forever in God’s eternal embrace.

If you or someone you love is battling an addiction, please reach out for help. It’s what Danny would want for you, and it’s what his family always wanted for him. The SAMHSA hotline is available for resources and information 24/7, 365 days a year.  1-800-662-4357
