Indianapolis

Daniel M. Shaffer, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 3, 2024.  He was born on January 30, 1956, in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Robert Lee and Alberta Cordelia (Devine) Shaffer.  Daniel honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp, where he received the Rifle Marksman Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.   Daniel was many things throughout his life. From Injection molding at Plastines and EMS, to Real Estate sales at Carpenter Realty, he had a wide range of experiences. His last work years were spent as a truck driver for Crete, Shaffer Trucking and Keenan Advantage. He eventually moved to a diesel mechanic position with Keenan Advantage, retiring in 2018 but with a brief stint as a part time dump truck driver on a construction site where his stepdaughter Amanda was his foreman.

He was a proud member of The Patriot Guard where he assisted in escorting fallen soldiers to their final resting place.

Daniel loved to play drums, sing ride his motorcycle and spend time with his cat, Dewey. He also loved to take his family on adventures camping, fishing or just seeing new places, especially historical locations. He could fix just about anything with the help of Youtube.

He bonded with us in several different ways, from teaching us how to drive, to making sure we knew how to manage our finances and even learning about our ancestry and family history together. He gave us the skills we would need to be better parents and raise his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; his sister, Donna and his sister, Birdie.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Sandra Shaffer; son, Jacob Shaffer (Amanda); son, Daniel Shaffer II; step daughter, Amanda Farmer (Kyle); step son, Matthew Hanson (Caitlynn); grandchildren, Jakobi, Elijah, Lillie, Kane, Bishop, Randy, Trent, Jamie and Levi; siblings, Eva Hanley, Bob Shaffer, Billy Shaffer, Becky Shaffer, Darlene West-Heir, Steve West and Tony West; along with many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life starting at 12:30pm, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Avon Community Church of God, 2309 N. Dan Jones Road, Avon, IN 46123.  Cremation Arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Indianapolis.
