Daniel “Dan” Clayton Rick was born on August 6, 1940, to the late Mark and Kathryn (Barker) Rick. Dan worked as a small engine technician at R.W.Geetings for over 40 years, until Geetings closed their doors. He continued his small engine repair work through his own business because wanted to stay busy and truly enjoyed the customers that were loyal to him. Dan was great at his work and won awards for his work on a national level. He taught many night classes at local adult vocational schools, making him widely known expert in the field.

Dan met the love of his life, Glenna Smith, during his teenage years. They married 2 years later and raised 4 children together in their home in Anderson, in which they have lived in for 57 years. In this home, Dan built two outbuildings for his hobbies. He designed and built most of the beautiful furniture that his wife would talk about and dreamed of having. He built a very large, one of a kind, beautiful dining room table with intricate wood turned legs. This was to seat his large growing family who came once a month for Sunday dinners. There was nothing that Dan couldn’t build or do.

Dan was also very creative and smart. He was a self-taught musician who could play every stringed instrument. Dan played in a bluegrass band and figured out that he could use bright orange weed-eater string for his base instead of instrument string. He was able to tune it just right and play great music and he became known for this. Dan also built motorcycles from the ground, up, and enjoyed taking long rides on his motorcycle. He rode all the way into his 80’s- When his family got concerned and he switched to a lighter, much smaller scooter for those long rides.

Everyone loved Dan. There was never a person that met Dan that didn’t like him or see how special of a person he was. He was a great listener. When he did speak, it was always to make you laugh and feel good. He always had something funny to say. Dan was also a great problem solver. He would help anyone who asked him for help. And most of all, Dan was a great family man. He was loyal and caring in every way, especially to his beautiful wife and best friend, Glenna.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; grandson, Dustin Rick; son-in-law, Mike Gallaway; and sister, Shirley (Rick) Thomas.

Dan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Glenna Rick; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Gallaway, son Dennis (Joanie) Rick, son Mark (Kim) Rick, daughter Heather (Clint) Smith; sister, Maryjane Morgan; and brother, Terry Rick. He has 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
