Daniel Robert Harp was born on May 2, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away on June 18, 2025, in Indianapolis, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to his community.
Dan was an active member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, where he cultivated deep connections and shared his faith with others. His commitment to making a positive impact extended beyond the church; he was a passionate supporter of Hollis Adams and the Special Olympics, participating in various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of individuals with special needs. Beyond the organized communities for those with special needs, Dan was an advocate for children and families. His generosity and thoughtfulness touched the lives of many. He was a grandpa and caregiver, not just to the grandchildren in his family, but to several children through the years.
In addition to his community service, Dan proudly served in the United States Army. Stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, he played a vital role in processing the return of soldiers from Vietnam.
His devotion to family was evident in every aspect of his life. Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Ruthann; daughters, Jenn (Jason) and Robin (Justin); mother, Gloria; and grandchildren, Emma, Leo, Owen, and Miles. He also considered his extended family essential to his life, including Ellen, Anthony, Cannon, Avalon, and Mumbi.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Charles; brother, Phillip; and beloved daughter, Sara.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Abbey Hunt Bryce Home for the comfort and care they provided during Dan's final months. Pia, Brian, Kelli, Aiyanna, Olivia, and many others played a significant role in enhancing his quality of life and supporting his family through this difficult time.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects – and wear a funny t-shirt in Dan’s honor – to the visitation on June 28 from 10am to 12pm, followed by a funeral service that will begin at 12pm at Union Chapel United Methodist Church at 2720 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240. In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly requested a donation in honor of Dan’s generous spirit.
Many organizations were close to Dan's heart. Additional donations may be made to
