Daniel A Fischer, or Dan to everyone who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully in his home in Anderson, IN on August 9, 2025 at 70 years old.
Dan was born on May 6, 1955 in South Bend, IN to Frederick and Lois Fischer, the youngest of 3 brothers. He grew up playing football and running cross country and track at Clay High School in South Bend. Many of Dan’s fondest memories and favorite stories came from these formative years.
Dan married his beloved wife Dawn (Yattaw - Dugan) Fischer on April 7, 1995 and their family grew to include 4 children: Sarah, Keegan, Tessa, and Emmy. Dan loved being a dad and his children’s lives were filled with fond moments, including Saturday morning waffles with bacon bits and long walks around the neighborhood after dark to watch the stars. Dan shared many life lessons with his children, often through long-winded stories that eventually found their way back to a meaningful message – or a football story. For as much as athletics shaped Dan, he always encouraged his children to try anything they wanted and be whoever they were. He loved to volunteer his time in support of his children’s pursuits, including coaching soccer, camping with the boy scouts, and attending many show choir competitions.
Dan pursued many different careers over his life, but none that he loved more than his time working in home improvement. At the time of his passing Dan was working for Home Depot as a millwork specialist and there was nothing he enjoyed quite like helping his customers create homes they loved, all while spending every spare minute building cherished relationships with his colleagues. In the years prior he had held a variety of roles at Home Depot and Lowes, both of which held a special place in his heart. Dan truly felt a sense of community amongst his “work family” and valued these relationships beyond the walls of the stores they began in.
In more recent years, Dan loved camping and would take off on long weekends to enjoy the outdoors as often as he could. At home, he loved tending his flower and vegetable gardens and sharing the products with his family, friends, and any stranger who would accept his gifts. Dan also loved dogs throughout his life, particularly his goofy-eared best friend, Dobby, who was his loyal companion for many hot days in the garden or on long trail walks.
Dan was greeted in Heaven by his parents, his oldest brother John Fischer, and many beloved pets. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, his children Sarah (Michael) Bowser, Keegan Fischer, Tessa (Steven) Parker, and Emmy (Harvinder) Fischer Singh, his grandsons Asher Bowser and Beckett Parker, his brother Thomas Fischer, his nieces and nephews, and many, many friends and neighbors.
Dan’s family will be honoring him with a Celebration of Life on August 26, 2025 from 3:30pm-6:00pm at Forest Park Lodge (878 Forest Ct Noblesville, IN 46060). Please join the family to share your favorite memories or stories of Dan. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations to The Humane Society for Hamilton County, an organization Dan patronized and supported with both his time and money in thanks for connecting him with his very best friend.
