Dan Eugene Mitchell, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 7, 2025. He was born on September 4, 1960, in Indianapolis, to the late Cleve and Winona (Dunkerson) Mitchell. Dan attended Arsenal Technical High School. He started working at the age of 13 at Marsh Auction Gallery. He also worked at Mitchell Brothers Painting as a painter, retiring in 2014. He worked hard his whole life. Dan was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
On one faithful day, Dan was walking by a phone booth in his neighborhood, and it started ringing. He ended up answering it, and that is when he met the love of his life, Teri Childress. They kept talking and eventually met at a friend’s house a couple of months later, and they have been together ever since.
Dan loved fishing, anywhere and anytime. He would go with friends or family, including his children. Dan even went night fishing, where his 6-year-old daughter, Danielle, ended up catching more fish than him and his friend Don Russell.
Dan also liked to travel when he could. Sometimes he and the family would go to places like Myrtle Beach, SC, Indiana Beach, or Florida. Then sometimes Dan and Teri would take trips to Brown County, Indiana to enjoy being outdoors. Somewhere in the woods there is a tree with Teri and Dan’s initials carved on it and a quarter placed into it.
Dan also loved to fish, hunt, cb radios, movies, and loved hanging out with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; siblings, Carmen Rule, Ronnie Mitchell, his grand daughter Angel Grace Spears.
Dan is survived by his wife of 51+years, Teri Mitchell; children, Danielle Spears (Jasion), Dana McDonald, and Dan Mitchell II; grandchildren, Niko McDonald, and Treshaun Banks.
Siblings, Doug Mitchell (Joyce), Carietha Markey (Spencer), Angela Owens.
Along with many extended family members and friends.
