Cynthia Diane Carson, 75, passed away on February 9, 2026. Born on August 6, 1950, in Anderson, Indiana, she was the daughter of James and Mary Alice Murray.

Cindy grew up in Alexandria, Indiana, and graduated from Alexandria High School with the Class of 1968. She went on to attend Ball State University, where she studied journalism and was recognized as a prize-winning journalist.

Her passion for writing shaped her life’s work. Cindy wrote for four newspapers: the Muncie Star, the Marion Tribune, the Herald Bulletin, and the Indianapolis Star North. She was a gifted writer with an instinct that never failed her—an ability to see clearly, think deeply, and express truth with honesty and integrity. She worked with the Literacy Coalition, and taught journalism.

Cindy had exceptional taste in music, books, and ideas. She believed that good taste was never about trends, but about honesty, integrity, and paying attention. She shared that wisdom with her nephews, encouraging their curiosity and teaching them to look beyond the surface of things. She was an avid reader, especially fond of mysteries.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, she especially enjoyed her time in Paris, the Alps, and the Grand Canyon. She had a great sense of humor, loved a good handbag, and had a niche for baking cookies. If Cindy said she was bringing cookies, you could expect an overflowing tray.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Phil Carson; brother, Stacy (Karen) Murray; and nephews, Benjamin Murray, Seth Murray, and Jacob Murray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Alice Murray; brother, Michael Murray; and nephew, Michael Murray Jr.

Cindy’s life was marked by curiosity, discernment, creativity, and generosity.
