Clayton Cornett

January 11, 1952 — June 16, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Clayton Cornett, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 16, 2022. He was born on January 11, 1952, in Batesville, IN to the late Ransom Cornett and Cleta Holman. Clayton graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1970. In 1978, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a Mental Health Technician, serving honorably for six years. He excelled in his career and was very proud of his service, earning three commendations, including one for his quick action to save a woman’s life while he was on vacation with his family. When he returned to civilian life in 1984, he continued service in healthcare. Clayton worked full time while supporting his family and putting himself through nursing school. He retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2014.

Clayton loved to travel and sing. In his military service, he took every opportunity to enrich his family’s lives with trips across the US, as well as all over Europe. He was always a familiar face at local karaoke spots and could belt out a range of songs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; his older brother Jimmy, sisters Carol and Joann.

Clayton is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Nancy Cornett; sons, Joseph Cornett, Andrew Cornett, and Thomas Cornett; as well as five grandchildren, Noah, Tyler, Jackson, Ella, and Logan.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to sing a Karaoke song, pour one out, and/or make any donations to the Air Force Aid Society at https://afas.org/
