Clarence Gene Ingalls, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 7, 2026. He was born on September 3, 1953, in Indianapolis, to the late Frank and Dorothy (Jessup) Ingalls. Gene went back to John Marshall High School in 1972 and received his high school diploma. He owned Rick’s Drum Store in Lawrence for a few years, worked a few different jobs and then became a forklift mechanic, and worked in that position until he retired.
Gene was a musician. He played both acoustic and electric guitars. He even played in a band in his younger years. Gene was also an avid traveler, specifically to the National Parks. His goal was to see all of them. Some of his favorites were Yosemite, Glacier, and Yellow Stone. Gene was even able to travel to Alaska with his wife, Kyle, to see a few of the National Parks up there.
Gene was known for his ingenuity and money-saving skills. If he wanted to do something, he would just figure it out on his own, because he didn’t want to have to pay someone else or buy new things to do it. Gene would do woodworking projects around the house all the time and use the scrap wood that was left at the house, and you would have thought that everything was brand new. He also converted a couple of vans by himself, by adding benches that would make beds, so that there was more room for the kids during the family trips to the National Parks. Gene was an avid finder of “cost effective” food as well. Lunch on a lot of the family trips were gas station hot dogs and a jug of juice from the grocery store. Nothing fancy, but everyone was fed and happy.
Family meant everything to Gene. He loved his family very much, and not just his immediate family, but his extended family too. Anytime Gene could be near his wife, Kyle, and his children and grandchildren, he would be. He thrived on their family vacations and get togethers. He was always calling his siblings to see what they were up to and wanting to know when they could all get together again.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above; his son, Chad Parsley; his grandson, Brandon “Alex” Ingalls; his brothers, Frank Ingalls and Tommy Ingalls; and his sister, Harriett (Ingalls) Smith.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Linda Kyle (Marine) Ingalls; his children, Frank Ingalls (Melissa), Brandon Ingalls, Aimee Sabik, Hollie Putzback (Phillip), and Kevin Parsley (Kearie); grandchildren, Logan, Kirstin, Preston, Rilee, Maddie, Lily, Griffin, Owen, Brayden, Gavin, Chase, Charlotte, Evelynne, and Kyle; great grandchildren, Emery and Iris; his sister, Micki Ingalls; and his brother, Richard Ingalls (Missy); along with many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
