Cherie L. Shields

Mrs. Cherie Louise Shields (Louise), 90, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on December 20, 2022, in Indianapolis. Louise was born May 10, 1932, in Martinsville, Indiana to Ward (Father) and Marguerite (Mother) Ely. Louise married the love of her life, George Robert Shields (Bobby) on March 20, 1953. Louise and Bobbie had five children Marva Kay Shields (Smith), Dennis Robert Shields, Jerry Jay Shields, Marcia Ann Shields (Wisman), and Marla Lynn Shields (Welch). Louise was a caring and loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, and a loving aunt to many of whom affectionately called her Uncle Louise. Some of our fondest memories are of large family gatherings drinking sweet tea, eating no-bake cookies, and chili in her and Bobby’s home.

Louise worked for Western Electric for 40-plus years. Upon retirement, there was no slowing Louise down!  She traveled, cared for several family members, and worked for G.H. Hermann Funeral Home for several years. Louise will be dearly missed by her family and anyone who knew her of which are many as I don’t think she ever knew a stranger!

Louise is preceded in death by her parents Ward and Marguerite Ely, husband George Robert Shields, son Dennis Robert Shields, brothers Roland Gene Ely and Thomas Ely, grandson Scott Smith, and great-grandson Austin Smith.

Arrangements to say farewell to our beloved Louise will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Legacy Funeral Home 5215 North Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46226  Visitation will be held that day from noon to 1 pm with the Funeral service held at 1 pm.
