Charles Edgar Walker, III

Charles "Chuck" Edgar Walker III passed away on July 12, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Chuck was a man who wore many hats throughout his lifetime. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1972. He taught photography to high school students at the Indiana School for the Deaf before becoming a civilian crime scene photographer and photo lab technician for the Indiana State Police.

After spending a summer working in Yellowstone National Park, Chuck fell in love with the area and made it his home for the next 20 years. There, he shared his love of nature and the beauty of Yellowstone with his stepsons and granddaughters, creating memories they will cherish forever.

From an early age, Chuck had a passion for photography, amateur radio, computers, and electronics. He was always tinkering with some new gadget or electronic device. Family members still laugh about the legendary tale that he was kicked out of—and permanently banned from—Canada after becoming intoxicated and allowing a toothless lion to escape from a Canadian zoo while living in North Dakota.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jackie (Dawson) Walker; his stepson, Leo Dawson; his granddaughters, Myranda Squires (Acie), Alexis Dawson Kashman (Andrew), and Mackenzie Dawson (Haleigh); his great-grandchildren, Ja'Cie and Maliyah Squires, and Harper and Preston Kashman; his brother, Randy Burton (Carin); and his sister, Jenny (Mike) Bland.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Michael Dawson; his parents, Charles E. Walker Jr. and Georgia (Wall) Stamm; and his sister, Janet Walker.

Chuck was an avid outdoorsman and hiker who documented more than 1,000 miles of hiking throughout Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding national forests. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In accordance with Chuck's wishes, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
