Carroll Voigt

June 23, 1931 — September 8, 2025

Carroll Voigt of Indianapolis, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2025, at the age of 94. He was born to Lewis and Lela Voigt in Iowa Falls, Iowa, nine years after his sister, Virginia. His strong work ethic was developed early through gardening and raising chickens with his father and working as a paperboy.

Carroll attended Ellsworth Community College for two years, followed by two years at Olivet Nazarene College, where he met Martha. During those years, he worked at a poultry and egg production plant, where he discovered his gift for accounting and office work. After graduation he was drafted into the Army where he played the tuba for two years before being honorably discharged.

Carroll and Martha were married on June 9, 1956. He went on to earn a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University. Carroll worked as an accountant for RCA Victor for several years before joining Eli Lilly, where he remained for 27 years until his retirement. In retirement, he worked for Ernst & Young doing taxes for several seasons and also served as Accounting Committee Chairman at Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene for the last 30 years.

Carroll enjoyed playing games with family and friends, growing flowers, feeding birds, researching his genealogy, and collecting postcards, stamps, and coins. He was an avid golfer—shooting a 91 on 18 holes just three days before his death—an accomplished ping pong player, and a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Carroll faithfully served his Lord and Savior and was a godly example to many. He led worship for the Children’s Church he and Martha started at both Lafayette Church of the Nazarene and Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene. He also served on the church board, the Benevolence Committee, and as an usher for many years, and interim.

A beloved family patriarch, he is survived by his wife, Martha; children Karen (Dennis) Litten, Tricia (Jeff) Chandler, and Jay (Jackie) Voigt; grandchildren Lindsay (Eric) Grubb, Jason (Veronica) Chandler, Aaron Chandler, Kathryn Chandler, and Rylie Voigt; and great-grandchildren Esther, Gideon, and Felix Grubb, and Amiyah Chandler. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

On Friday, September 12, funeral visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. with the service following at 3 p.m. at Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene, 9401 E. 25th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.
