Burrneatha Edwards

Burrneatha Smither Edwards, 101, passed away Friday, Feb 24, 2023. She was surrounded by family in her home at Lynd Place in Muncie where she has enjoyed living and been so loved by the staff and residents for the past several years. She was born in Liberty, KY on May 9, 1921, the daughter of Richard and Ora Smither. She then moved to Anderson, IN after getting married and had a son and daughter, Jerry and Judy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Flossie Smither and Ora Smither. 10 siblings, Basil, Buel, Juanita, Curtis, Burrel, Vaunis, Velma, Wanda, Richard Jr., Harold, and daughter, Judy Stepp. She will be missed by her surviving siblings Ronnie, Gary, Evelyn (Javana), Steve, son, Jerry Edwards, 3 grandsons, 9 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Known as Bea or Granny Bea to many, she was a member of the Anderson Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving others with meals and many other acts of service. She worked at Guide Lamp for 33 years before retiring. Granny loved her family and was very involved in her grandson’s lives and had a lot of fun watching the great and great great grandchildren come along. After growing up on a farm in Kentucky, she really enjoyed gardening and canning and you could often find her in the garden or in the kitchen with Dave and Carol Lukens putting some food away for the winter months.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 200 W. 46th Street, Anderson, IN 46013 on March 3, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Muncie Mission to help local families.
