Brenda Kay Crawford, 73, passed away June 12, 2025, at IU Health Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Brenda was born November 14, 1951, in Danville, Illinois to James and Vonna (Correll) Armstrong. She graduated from Danville High School in 1969. During her high school years, she sang in the a cappella choir and worked for her grandparents at The Bowling Ball Bowling Alley. This led to a lifetime love of bowling, and she competed in several bowling leagues with her friends throughout her years in Danville. She married Norman Crawford in 1994.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Norman Crawford of Windfall, Indiana; one son, Justin (Jamie) Crawford of Kansas City, Missouri; and her granddaughter, Everly Mae Crawford. Others left to cherish the memory of Brenda are her cousins: Dorothy (Robert) Rickert of Hoopeston, Illinois; Barb Fisher; and Paul (Vedie) Albright of Joliet, Illinois; her aunt, Joyce Correll of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her uncle, Mike Armstrong; and her sister-in-law, Linda Crawford Scott of Hanson, Kentucky. She will be especially missed by her best friends, Su Brooks and Betsy (Turner) Smith of Anderson, Indiana
Brenda was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as her stepfather, Gordon Lee Finley. She also lost her beloved canine companion, BG (Baby Girl) in February of this year.
In 1974, Brenda began working for Sears Department Store in Danville, Illinois She moved to Indiana with her husband and son in 1995, where she continued to work for Sears in Kokomo until 2002. Throughout her years there, she worked as a member of the team in cataloging, management, and loss prevention. Upon leaving Sears, she continued to work for another fifteen years at the Tipton Farm Service Agency before finally retiring in 2017.
More importantly she was a dedicated servant of God and her community, as witnessed by the many memberships she held. She was a loyal congregant of the Windfall United Methodist Church, as well as a supporter of the United Women in Faith attending many conferences around the US. She served as past president of both the Tipton and Windfall Lions Club, and was an acting board member of the Lucille Raines Residence. She also served with the DAVA Auxiliary Chapter 28 in Kokomo and volunteered by driving local veterans to medical appointments.
The first thing everyone noticed about Brenda was her smile, and nothing made her smile more than her pride and joy, granddaughter, Everly Mae. She and Everly loved to spend time on craft projects, baking, and playing games. Right up until her death, Brenda had sewing patterns she was working on to add to Everly’s wardrobe, and she was never without her knitting needles to make a new hat, scarf, or set of gloves if her granddaughter needed them.
Per Brenda’s wishes, she was cremated and will be interred at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on July 12, 2025 at the United Methodist Church in Windfall.
