Betty Lee Herrera, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 5, 2022.  She was born on November 22, 1944, in London, KY to the late Geneva (Check) Hicks, raised by Elizabeth Cheek.  She attended Bush High School.  Betty had multiple careers throughout her life, at the end of her career, she had a daycare.

Betty loved to work puzzles, watch western movies & religious channels.

She is preceded in death by her mother mentioned above; along with her sister, Wilma Paredes (Cox); son-in-law, John Fleenor; grandchildren, Britney Smallwood and Deanna Fleenor; great grandsons, Ethan Crawford and Major Maxie.

Betty is survived by her husband of 37 years, Luis Herrera; children, Penny Gaskins (Mike Gaskins), Melinda Fleenor, James “Ed” Smallwood (Shelby), Gary Smallwood (Britney); grandchildren, Brandon Gaskins, Megan Gaskins, Melanie Dame Chadd Fleenor, Nicole Fleenor, James (Scott) Smallwood, Justin Smallwood, Joshua Smallwood, Justin Tanner, Amanda Tanner, Ashley Smallwood; 5 step grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; along with a host of family & friends!

Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, with services to start at 1pm.  Burial to follow at New Crown Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
