Betty Louise Cannon, lovingly known by her family as Mom, Mamawl, and GG, passed away at home, cared for and loved by her family, on August 22, 2025. She was born on September 16, 1944, in Beatyville, Kentucky, to Ben and Gladis Chapman, who preceded her in death.
Betty grew up in a small family, alongside her brothers Bobby and Kenny. She was a devoted churchgoer from an early age, and her faith remained a steady anchor throughout her life. After graduating from high school and completing a year of college, she moved to Chicago, where she married James Silas Cannon. In time, she settled in Indianapolis, where she began building her life and legacy.
In her younger years, Betty loved bowling and sewing, hobbies that reflected her creative and spirited nature. She carried that same spirit into her adult life, working faithfully for more than 25 years at La Quinta Inn, providing for her family and purchasing a home where countless memories were made.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her daughter Cyndi Kay Cannon, her parents, and her brothers. She is survived by her sons James David Cannon (Cheryl) and Eddy Dwayne Cannon (Jamie); her dog Bootsie, her grandchildren Elizabeth, Adam, Dustin, Danielle, Daniel, Samanthia, Cameray, Kaylee, and Haylee; and her 12 great-grandchildren, including her beloved Camden.
Betty was a woman of faith who loved Jesus deeply. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and baking—always making sure every birthday was celebrated with cake.
Her legacy lives on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so generously. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her resilience, and her unwavering devotion to her family.
A service to honor Betty’s life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 PM at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 1604 W Morris St, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
