Bart E. Carroll

Bart E. Carroll, 52, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 10, 2024.  He was born on August 22, 1971, in Phoenix, AZ, to Stephen and Jacqueline (Houk) Carroll.   Bart graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1989 and received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Ball State University. Bart received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2000 from Indiana University.   

Bart worked at the Indiana State Department of Health for eleven years as an attorney, where his passion was to defend the rights of vulnerable nursing home patients and disabled children.   He was a member of Common Ground Christian Church and was baptized in 2023.

Bart grew up in Muncie, where he was an avid wrestler and football player. He had an extensive network of friends, many of whom he maintained friendships with throughout his life. Bart loved to laugh, run role playing games, play sports, write fiction, talk about philosophy and politics, and spend time in nature. Most of all Bart loved being with his friends and family. Bart cherished his role as a husband to Jen, his wife of eleven years and the love of his life. Becoming a father was Bart’s proudest achievement and his son Ben was his greatest source of joy.

He is preceded in death by his father, Stephen Carroll, his sister, Kemberly Carroll, and his grandparents.

Bart is survived by his wife, Jen Carroll; son, Ben Carroll; mother, Jacqueline (Houk) Carroll, brother, Jack Carroll (Jennifer Harlan); sister; Marie Hitze (Brad); nieces and nephews, Savannah Carroll; Jack Carroll II; Finley Hitze; Allison Anderson; and Jacob Crawford; along with many beloved extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:30pm to 7:30pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46226.

There will also be a visitation from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 11am at Common Ground Christian Church Midtown at 4550 N Illinois St, Indianapolis, IN 46208.   

Bart's final resting place will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46240.

Immediately following the burial, there will be a reception for friends and family at the Church at the Crossing, 9111 Haverstick Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
