Anthony "Tony" Kline was born in Indianapolis on September 25, 1961, and passed away at his home on March 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Although he was not a physically big man, Tony had a big heart and the drive and determination to build a life for himself and his family. He first displayed these traits at Ben Davis High School where he played football and graduated from in 1980. After graduation, he went to work and was a "jack of all trades." He had a variety of jobs as a young man including working as a carpet layer, a chef, and at an auction business before settling into a career as a CNC machinist. He spent his life working as a machinist for Morris Machines and later, after a buyout, GE Aerospace, from which he retired. Tony was known for his strong work ethic and a commitment to getting the job done right.
In fact, at one of his jobs, while working as a chef at the Ramada Inn, the bartender thought that Tony was such a nice guy that she gave Tony her daughter's phone number and suggested he should call her. Tony called her, and he and the bartender's daughter talked on the telephone all night long until he had to go back to work in the morning. When they met the next day, Tony knew he had met the love of his life - Jan. The two dated for a year and were married in 1982, and the happy couple enjoyed 44 loving years together.
One of Tony's greatest satisfactions in life was the family he and Jan created. He had grown up not having a lot, and as a husband and father he wanted to build a better life for his own family. In 2005, he purchased a home and took great pride in making sure the grass was cut and that the house was the best looking on the block. He also enjoyed getting away from home, by taking his beloved Jan for a ride on his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle. One of their favorite things to do together was to go on spontaneous motorcycle rides to different places, especially travelling to their favorite destination - Brown County, Indiana.
Tony's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, first, with his own children, and later with his grandchildren. He loved to take them fishing, camping, and for rides on the golf cart. In fact, one of his best memories was of the time that he and Jan, along with their children and their grandchildren all went camping together. The love and camaraderie of everyone was a true testament to the man that Tony was. Tony was a very hard worker, but he loved harder than he worked which is evident in the number of lives he touched and enriched. To know Tony was to love and admire him.
Tony is survived by his wife, Jan; his children: Greg (Chelsea) Kline, Whitney (Trevor) Sebastian, and Shawn (Brittany) Kline; his grandbabies: Carly, Brooklyn, Ryker, Elliana, Lydia, Barrett, Addison, and Emma; and his siblings: Doug Kline, Eric Kline, Anita (Denny) Kidwell, Rita (Jim) Brooks, Joyce (Rod) Kendall, Mike (Janet) Ashby, and Dina Thomas. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Lamb; his mother, Carolyn Sampley; his father, Henry Kline; his nephews: Ricky Kline, Eric Kline Jr., and Dustin Brooks; his niece, Holly Kendall; and in-laws Sharon Ward and George Ashby.
Services for Anthony "Tony" Kline are scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services - Indianapolis, located at 1604 W. Morris Street. There will be a calling for the family and friends of Tony from 11AM until 1PM, and the funeral service will immediately follow the visitation.
