Ann Weatherly Bettag of Indianapolis, Indiana passed from this life on July 12, 2025 at the age of 83.
Born on October 7, 1941, in Indianapolis, Ann was the first born of Chester D. and Mildred R. Weatherly. Although Ann attended Howe High School for two years, she was among the early graduates from North Central High School in 1959. Ann continued her education at Indiana University, where she cultivated an enduring curiosity for a variety of interests and a love for learning and research that was never exhausted.
Throughout her adult life, Ann focused on her family, ride-or-die partner and husband, William F. (Bill) Bettag, and their two children Angela (Angie) and Eric. A devoted homemaker, Ann’s grace, strength and quiet presence were the heart of her home. She was recognized as a talented scratch cook specializing in comfort food and an artisan maker of beautiful handwork. Most recently, Ann created mixed media greeting cards, tangle art, and “junk journals” (a blend of repurposed materials and memorabilia that capture the life and interests of the recipient in a hand-crafted book). For a number of years Ann enjoyed collaborating with Bill to create unique, fashionable jewelry from wood and metal scraps combined with various tokens, coins, keepsakes and mementos.
Elegance and taste defined Ann’s style, yet she was just as cherished for her warm spirit and sharp wit. Though soft spoken, Ann possessed a keen sense of humor that frequently caught others by surprise and left an indelible impression of her sometimes quirky take on life.
A small, lifelong circle of friends brought Ann great joy, especially during their regular canasta games – a tradition dating back to early childhood. Those friendships were a treasured constant throughout her life.
Ann is survived by her children Angie Albertson and Eric Bettag (Martina Nehrling), her sister Susan Weatherly, her brother Jon Weatherly (Tammie), grandchildren Abby Mason (Landon), Blake Albertson (Emma Moreschi), and Jenna Albertson (Luke Ripple), kindred cousin Claudia Weatherly, and several devoted nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and adored son-in-law John Albertson.
Ann’s life was marked by kindness, creativity and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed. Ann’s enduring influence will be remembered and celebrated at a private family gathering.
